Dice2Roll · Terms of use

Terms of use.

Dice2Roll is licensed to you rather than sold, the dice are for games, and it comes with no warranty.

This is the end user license agreement for Dice2Roll: what you may do with the app, what it does not promise, and who answers for it. The app shows its own copy on its About page.

Your license

01 / 11

These terms are the agreement between you and Nordic Mythos Oy, the company that publishes Dice2Roll. What you have is a license to use the app, not the app itself.

Where a developer supplies its own license terms for an app, they take the place of Apple’s standard license agreement. These are Nordic Mythos Oy’s, for Dice2Roll. The Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions apply alongside them.

These terms choose no governing law of their own. With none chosen, which country’s law applies is decided by the ordinary rules of the court a dispute is brought in rather than by this page. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or the European Union, the protections you have under the law where you live apply whatever any agreement says.

Your license is personal to you and cannot be transferred. You may install and use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as many as your Apple Account allows. The Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions set that number. Other accounts in your Family Sharing group may use it too, as may accounts covered by a volume purchase. You may not sell it, rent it, redistribute it, or take it apart and pass any part of it off as your own work.

Dice2Roll is free to install and free to keep: two six-sided dice and the physics that throws them, for as long as the app is on your phone. Everything else is unlocked by a single purchase. It is not a subscription. Nothing renews or expires, and there is nothing else to buy afterwards. What it unlocks is part of this same license and is held on the terms of this page.

The purchase is made from Apple rather than from Nordic Mythos Oy: Apple takes the payment, keeps its record and handles any refund through its own process. If Apple does refund it, the unlock goes with the refund. Your rights as a consumer under the law where you live are untouched by any of that.

What you make is yours

02 / 11

The dice you design, the sets you build and the games you save belong to you entirely. We claim no rights in any of it, and nothing in the app sends any of it to us. There is no server for it to reach. If you send us something yourself, such as a bug report, we see what you sent and nothing else.

The dice

03 / 11

Every throw starts from an orientation drawn uniformly at random, using the system’s own random number generator, and the number is whatever the die lands showing. That is honest randomness for a game.

A die that comes to rest leaning against a wall is not showing a number, so the app lifts it and spins it about a random axis until it settles flat, a little harder each time if it will not. Mid-roll, if a few of those will not free it, the app throws that die again from the top of the tray. This is a fresh throw in a random direction, not a repeat of the one you made. A die that landed cocked while nothing was rolling is only nudged; it is left alone rather than flung across a still table, and the next roll picks it up.

Nothing about any of that is aimed at a face, and nothing in the app ever chooses which one comes up. A die being knocked over or thrown again is always a die that was not showing a number, so there is never a result to discard.

It is not certified randomness. Do not use Dice2Roll for gambling, for a lottery, for anything cryptographic, or for any decision where money, safety or a legal right turns on the number.

Keeping your own copies

04 / 11

Your sets and games live in Dice2Roll’s own storage on your iPhone, and inside whatever device backup you keep. There is no copy on a server belonging to Dice2Roll, because Dice2Roll has no server. We therefore cannot restore a set or game for you. Your sets can come back from a device backup, an exported file or a saved game on your shelf that still carries them.

Restore purchases restores something else entirely. Apple keeps the record of what you bought and can put it back on a new phone; nobody keeps a copy of the dice you made. The unlock comes back by itself. Your sets and games come back only if you kept them.

Export the things you would mind losing. A “.diceset” or “.dicegame” file is plain JSON and can be kept wherever you keep anything else.

No warranty

05 / 11

Dice2Roll is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, Nordic Mythos Oy disclaims all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any purpose you have in mind for it.

Some countries do not allow those exclusions. Where that is so, this section applies only as far as it lawfully can, and your rights as a consumer under the law where you live are untouched by it.

Liability

06 / 11

To the fullest extent the law allows, Nordic Mythos Oy is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, nor for any loss of data, arising out of using Dice2Roll. This includes dice sets and games you had not exported.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Who answers for the app

07 / 11

Supporting Dice2Roll is Nordic Mythos Oy’s job and nobody else’s. Questions, faults and complaints go to the email address at the end of this page.

If anybody claims that Dice2Roll infringes their intellectual property, Nordic Mythos Oy is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim. Apple is not responsible.

Dice2Roll uses no third-party services of its own, so it brings none of their terms with it. If you use it with another service, such as sending an exported file through Mail, Messages, AirDrop or iCloud Drive, that service’s own terms apply to what you do there.

Apple

08 / 11

Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Dice2Roll: the app and everything in it are Nordic Mythos Oy’s responsibility alone. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for it.

If the app fails to conform to any warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price if there was one. Beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation of any kind. Nordic Mythos Oy, not Apple, is responsible for every other claim about the app, including product liability, failure to meet a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or privacy law.

Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

By using Dice2Roll you confirm that you are not in a country subject to a United States government embargo, or one the United States government has designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Apple asks a developer who supplies a license agreement of its own to carry a set of minimum terms in it. Those terms are the four paragraphs above, together with the first paragraph and the scope of the license in Your license, the whole of No warranty, all three paragraphs of Who answers for the app, and the name, address and email in Getting in touch.

What is not in the app

09 / 11

Dice2Roll has one purchase: a one-time unlock from the App Store. There is nothing else for sale, no way to spend more, no advertising, no chat and no feed of anybody else’s work. What is on your screen is what the app shipped with, what you made and any set or game somebody sent you and you chose to open.

Changes to these terms

10 / 11

These terms live in two places today, and in three once Dice2Roll is in the App Store. This page is one. The app carries a second, in the copy that shipped with the version you have installed. The third is the license agreement the App Store shows for an app it lists, which is the copy a purchase is subject to.

The copy in the app changes only when the app does. The copy the App Store shows changes when a new version is submitted with new terms. This one can be corrected between releases, and the date at the top of this page changes whenever it is.

So this is the current text. Where it differs from the copy you were shown, Nordic Mythos Oy holds itself to whichever version gives you more.
